"Investors see microfinance as a rural distribution business", says Suresh Gurumani, CEO, SKS Microfinance. The leading MFI is adding 300000 customers every month and has already added 4 million customers to itself. Gurumani said that they are looking at becoming the largest rural distribution company, where there is a huge market in the form of rural India to be tapped for products & services. He added that the key to SKS' success lied in eliminating the poverty premium and bringing down the cost of delivery of financial services and products, thereby ensuring a very viable business model. The firm is now into credit life insurance, disbursement of endowment policy and also have been testing with health insurance. They are essentially looking at tapping the saving needs of the customers. On the non -- financial service space, the firm is focussing on income generating products and looking at services like providing solar light, mobile phones and water purifiers.
